ASTM F3210 Femoral component fatigue test

In March 2022, the ASTM published a new standard for fatigue testing of total knee femoral components. This is in addition to testing the tibial tray per ISO 14879-1 and the first standard which focuses on the femoral side.

The test is performed under closing conditions, which means the femoral component is loaded in compression within the anterior-posterior direction. Only one posterior condyle is loaded while the anterior flange is embedded.

The recommended runout for this test method is ten million cycles.
