ASTM F2723 Mobile Bearing translation test

The test described in ASTM F2723 relates to knee endoprosthesis systems with mobile bearings and a holding mechanism which prevents the mobile bearing from being detached from the tibial component. The femoral and tibial components are fixed to the test device, whereby the flexion angle of the femoral component is chosen such that the shearing or bending forces on the holding mechanism become maximal. The tibial component is fixed according to the manufacturer's recommended tibial slope. Under a constant axial load of 2,275 N and with a cycle number of 220,000, a posterior-anterior or anterior-posterior force (450 N) is applied to the tibial component. It is then determined how far the mobile bearing can be vertically raised and tilted compared to the initial state.
