ASTM F897 Fretting corrosion of osteosynthesis plates and screws

We offer a test method for the determination of the friction corrosion between plates and screws of osteosynthesis systems according to the test standard ASTM F897.

The osteosynthesis plate is fixed with a defined normal force via the screws in a test device. A clinically relevant relative motion between the plate and the screw is produced with a constant frequency. The test is carried out in a saline solution (0.9% NaCl). At the end of the test, the fretting wear is determined by the weight loss of the plates and screws.

The test procedure can also be used to generate abrasive particles of your individual implants, which can then be used for chemical analysis or biological testing.
